This is what I was going to suggest, if you can't tell which is East or West Coast, the next step is to do a ping test to see which gives the best result. Or even google FFXIV server status and some of those sites will show you all server ping tests. I don't care where my server is, as long as I get good ping results.. Everglades nursery

WoW connects you to the server you choose, not a proxy server somewhere else. Also note that the issue might be on your ISP as well. For what i calculated here, if you're in Edmond it's around 2.5k km to Chicago while to LA it's 3.2k km. So it does really makes a difference. Something like storm rage for alliance, Area 52, Zuljin, for horde. With how the faction balance is, you'll want to be horde if you're truly looking to do end game content.
